This past July, CCV’s Associate Director Josh Kohn was in Butte, Montana for the Montana Folk Fest where he encountered one of the city’s great cultural treasures: the Cornish pasty. In the late 1800s, Cornish miners brought this hearty hand pie to Butte’s booming copper mines. Over time, the pasty traveled far beyond the mineshafts, adopted by other immigrant communities and woven into Butte’s broader food culture.
