A quick look at the 48-team field, groups and sites for the FIFA World Cup 2026, which begins June 11in Mexico City and ends with the title match on July 19 in New York/New Jersey. The top two teams in each group plus the eight best third-place finishers advance to the round of 32. The match schedule will be announced on Saturday.
Mexico was drawn into a group with South Africa, South Korea and the UEFA Playoff D winner – Denmark, Ireland, Czech Republic or North Macedonia. El Tri will face South Africa in the tournament's opening match on June 11, 16 years after the two sides played the first game in the 2010 World Cup.
The majority of matches will take place in the United States, which is hosting the World Cup for the first time since 1994. New York/New Jersey, Dallas (Arlington), Houston , Kansas City, Atlanta, Los Angeles (Inglewood), Philadelphia, Seattle, San Francisco (Santa Clara), Boston (Foxborough) and Miami (Miami Gardens) are the host cities.
