ICE raids turn deadly: Protests erupt across Minnesota
Minneapolis is on edge after a deadly ICE shooting during a federal immigration operation. What officials call self-defense, city leaders describe as reckless force. The death of a woman during an ICE raid has pushed Minnesota into a new wave of protests and national attention.
In Minneapolis and other cities where federal agents have led immigration crackdowns, residents have formed loose networks to track and protest them.
The president says protesters will be dealt with "quickly and effectively" if he is "forced to act" as Democrat lawmakers say "reckless, even lethal, use of force cannot continue".
There have been instances in recent days where schools have implemented "lockout" or "lockdown" procedures in response to ICE in the area, including at Justice Page Middle in south Minneapolis and Carondelet Catholic School in southwest Minneapolis on Tuesday.
The president says local officials have "totally lost control" and immigration enforcement protestors will be dealt with "quickly and effectively" if he is "forced to act".
Last night, the protests finally hit the entertainment industry, as celebrities attending the annual Golden Globe Awards joined a much more subtle declaration of anti-ICE sentiment in the form of small lapel pins emblazoned with the phrase "Be Good" and "ICE Out."
Footage shared online is showing the aftermath of a possible ICE operation in a busy commercial area in Richfield, at West 65th Street and Nicollet Avenue. A video shows an unmarked vehicle leaving a strip mall while bystanders blow whistles and shout at the vehicle.

Between 80 and 100 Shorewood High School students walked out of school at about 11:51 a.m. Jan. 16. They started on the front lawn of the school, proceeded down Capitol Drive and onto Murray Avenue toward the Shorewood Public Library.
